Delhi – Howrah Express – Train Derails near Fathepur

FATEHPUR (Uttar Pradesh): At least 35 people were killed and over 200 were injured when 15 bogies of a speeding Delhi-Howrah bound Kalka Mail derailed near Malwa station today in the worst train accident this year.

 The derailment took place at 12.20 PM when the packed train from Howrah reached near Malwa station, nearly 120 kms from Lucknow. As per the Railway Authorities, train was speeding at about 108 kmph when the accident occurred which is about the maximum. Some of the bogies were toppled and fell on another bogie. Gas cutters and other equipment were used to cut the metal in the AC and other coaches to rescue the trapped passengers. About 3 AC Coaches, 2 Sleeper and 2 General Couches were the among the worst hit.

Rescue operation from army and Railway authorities is under progress to take out the passengers who are stuck inside the jammed bogies.  Govt has declared the compensation with Five lakh for ex-gratis, while the seriously injured would be getting Rs One lakh and those with minor injuries would be given Rs 25,000.
